OCR To Capture Text Data

The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) scanning option requires access to your device’s camera and/or photo app. The OCR option is available for select fields on the Contact, Equipment, and Child Equipment forms.

	OCR Scan Select to open your camera and perform an OCR scan to add text to a field. For example, to add equipment information, you could take a picture of the information sticker on a piece of equipment and then select the serial number on the image to fill the Serial field with data. OCR scanning is available on the Contact, Equipment, and Child Equipment forms.

Using the OCR Scan

You can add data to the entity form using a photo that contains text information. The OCR icon displays next to the fields where data can be added from an OCR photo scan. Using the OCR scan will require access to your device’s camera and/or photo gallery. OCR scanning is available when creating or editing contacts, equipment, or child equipment.

1. On the entity’s form, click the OCR icon next to the field you want to add information to.

2. Select from the following options:

   • Capture Picture: Opens the camera app.

   • Choose Picture: Opens the photo gallery where you can select an existing photo.

   • Use Last Picture Taken: Opens the last photo taken. This is useful if you need to capture additional text for other fields in the same window.

   • Cancel: Closes the Select window.

3. The image is scanned, and the recognized text is highlighted in purple.

4. Tap the purple highlighted text to add the text to the field. The text field is displayed above the image so that you can see what text was entered. You can edit this information by tapping in the field. The highlight on the image changes to red to indicate that the text was selected.

5. Click the checkmark to accept the data in the field.

6. Continue adding text to other fields by clicking on the appropriate OCR icon.
