Since a company's jobs are usually similar, many job structure details (including some cost codes) are common across jobs. Master cost codes are standard codes that can be assigned to jobs without re-entering information.
When designing cost codes, remember the system sorts characters left to right, prioritizing numbers over letters.
To set up master cost codes:

Go to Settings > Master Cost Codes.

The Master Cost Codes list displays.

Select New.

Enter the following:

Cost Code (required): Enter the cost code.

Category: Select the job cost category.

Description: Enter a description.

Default Profit Type: Select the default profit type.

Default Estimate Units: Enter the default estimate units. Typically, the estimate unit is set at the job level.

Default Estimate Amount: Enter the default estimate amount. Typically, the estimate amount is set at the job level.

Active checkbox:

Leave Active selected to make this master cost code available.

Clear Active if you are setting up a master cost code you do not want users to select yet.
